LOVE :: FLIC FLAC

I got a little link happy with this one. I stumbled upon Flic Flac as a result of their remix of Bon Iver's Blood Bank re-making the rounds on hypem, and then found that, "oh", everything they touch is amazing. The Vance Joy remix isn't listed in this post because I think that four just might make me crazy but check it out anyway (Soundcloud link below). If you're looking for a new artist to dive into be sure to check out this Austrian duo's tracks. They stick mostly to indie remixes, and they are delicious! Free downloads galore too if you like them on Facebook!

BEDOUIN SOUNDCLASH BRUTAL HEARTS DOCTOR DRU REMIX

German house producer remixes Bedouin Soundclash's single Brutal Hearts into a mesmerizing tale of fading vocals and heavy, grooving synths. A deep pumping bass line compliments the track and makes you preemptively wish the track would just keep going past it's set time. Check it out!

SAN CISCO FRED ASTAIRE JOYWAVE REMIX

I've been hooked on Joywave ever since their track Tounges ft. Kopps came out. They're unpredictable and ever changing with their sound and they nail it every time. Seriously. The light pop single from Aussie's San Cisco has been transformed into a dark, experimental house remix that you could watch drip down some walls like tar compared to some of this summer's mixes and it's AWESOME. I love what's been coming out summer-style wise, but when you stumble upon something like this it's like a breath of fresh air. Stay weird Joywave, I'm loving it.

ANNA KENDRICK CUPS JELLOSEA REMIX

Lovely remix of Pitch-Perfect's Anna Kendrick's song Cups by Toronto's own Jellosea. It's a tuned down remix that takes a wide departure form the original and delivers delightful results. I can't say that I am a huge fan of the original track to begin with so it is awesome when you stumble over something like this. It gives a new apriciation for the original while creating something completely new in the process. Props to Jellosea for taking full advantage of the tuned down vocal trend and seriously killing it.

POLIÇA TIFF DOC MCKINNEY REMIX

POLIÇA was one of my favorite bands of 2012, hands down. Tiff features Bon Iver's Justin Vernon and gets a brilliant remix from Doc McKinney. McKinney sticks withPOLIÇA's usual style, staying raw and pulsing, while adding some nice trip hop elements to drive the song through. Great preview for what is coming up next!

Their new album Shulamith is out October 22nd.

SUFJAN STEVENS TO BE ALONE WITH YOU THOMAS KERN EDIT

We are SO excited to bring you Thomas Kern's edit of Sufjan Steven's To Be Alone With You.  It's a killer rework adding in a solid foundation and a chill beat that becomes more and more hypnotic as the song progresses. Kern drives this mellow track with a picked up percussive beat that ebbs in and out of the original beautifully.  Listening to his Soundcloud page he seems to pave a particular talent for working within the original structure of a track and enhancing it so that it retains its character, yet becomes something new entirely at the same time. Take a listen and grab a free download from his Soundcloud!

RYAN LESLIE ADDICTION PHAZZ REMIX

Ryan Leslie's R&B anthem Addiction get's an electro make-over with French producer Phazz's new mix. He keeps some of the B&B elements and then cuts it all into a pop-and-lock style jam that will keep playing in your head long after the song is finished. It's a bold choice and we can't to hear more reworks from Phazz.

Le Crayon takes a space lounge approach to Peter & The Magician's On My Brain and damn did Le Crayon hit the sweet spot or what! Super chill with lot's of toned down synth and a deep bass that makes you feel a little cooler while you listen to it.  It's just awesome ok?

CARAVAN PALACE BEATOPHONE CLUB MIX

Swing meets EDM with French band Caravan Palace's new single Beatophone (Club Mix).  It's a roaring 20's Great Gatsby type track that is dancy, funky, and jazzy all rolled into one. Loving their unique sound and can't wait to hear more from this group!

STRFKR WHILE I'M ALIVE LENNY KISER REMIX

Meet San Francisco producer and DJ Lenny Kiser. His latest track is a remix of STRFKR's While I'm Alive and it's seriously rad. I'm particularly fond of the song selection since the original is so bare [read: boring] and it's nice to see a DJ really be able to show off their sound within a remix.

The drum machine/synth bass combo give the track some body and paired with the tropical kettle drum-esque melody, it really finds a groove. Props to the timing on the whole track as well, while the vocals on the original are fairly monotonous, Kiser brings them in and out at seemingly all the right moments. You know you've won when your mix sounds like it should have been the original, and this track is no exception.

Events are listed on his Facebook page and he also teaches Ableton classes in SF so check out his site below!

MAROON 5 LOVE SOMEBODY PENGUIN PRISON REMIX

Go ahead and front all you want about not liking or listening to pop music. There is a reason this shit is infectious and the page views don't lie. Chris Glover aka Penguin Prison doubles up that sentiment with his just-out remix of Maroon Five's Love Somebody. Glover adds his signature poppy synths and well rehearsed breaks to make an entirely new song, using cuts of Levine's vocals to make up part of the melody for the track. It's catchy as hell and if your body doesn't start moving you just might be dead inside. So you should probably check on that.

KISSES AIR CONDITIONING BRETT REMIX

We'd like to take a moment to get all 80's summer soundscape on you. Cue: Brett's remix of Kisses' Air Conditioning. It's easy on the ears and full of synth and guitar strumming and cool guy vocals. Add an inoffensive bass line and more synth and it's like John Hughes just stepped into your iPod. Seriously it makes me want to ride a bike and have this playing in my summer love montage scene. Amiright?

JOEL COMPASS FUCKED UP COMPUPHONIC REMIX

Maxime Firke aka Compuphonic has released a super deep remix of Joel Compass' downtempo R&B single Fucked Up. It hits its stride about a minute in when Compuphonic digs into the meat of the song itself and really gets the bass going. His interpretation of this track is brilliant and he makes it pure sex.

Joel Compass' EP Astronaut is out September 2 on Black Butter Records.

THE RUB FEEL YOU FT LIL FAME & MISUN MARCO POLO REMIX

A nice remix of The Rub's Feel You by Brooklyn based producer Marco Polo for The Rub Remixed EP out July 30. It's a sick beat and Misun's vocals add an amazing gritty funkiness to the track. Marco Polo adds a 90s touch to the rap aesthetic rounding out an excellently produced mix.

The Rub (DJ Eleven + DJ Ayres) released a 4 dong EP in June, and have enlisted some of their favorite producers to remix the tracks. Check out their website to download the original album and stay tuned for the release of their upcoming EP.

MARLENA SHAW WOMAN OF THE GHETTO FLUME'S JACKIN HOUSE MIX

Flume's latest work, a remix of the great Marlena Shaw's Woman Of The Ghetto for the Verve Remixed: The First Ladies dips just a bit into the breadth of this producer's talent.  Hot off of his release for Disclosure's You & Me Flume has become quite a force. His approach in terms of style and genre seems to be that he finds what works best for the track, instead of forcing a certain style upon it. His remixes then seem like a no brainer, a type of "of course this is what compliments that track" mentality.

Woman Of The Ghetto has a pounding bass that will unquestionably get you moving, but is by no means heavy handed. The subtle organ track that comes in around a minute in is the highlight of this track for me. It hold all the emphasis and just creeps in and out of the spotlight throughout the overall track. Excellent sampling work too, Shaw's vocals stand pure and the music just falls into place around it. Bravo.

MOULLINEX TO BE CLEAR RAC REMIX

We over here at HS love it when RAC (André Allen Anjos) does a remix of a less mainstream song. Case in point with his latest remix of Moullinex's To Be Clear. Punchy synth layers and James Bond-esque vocals lead the way on this one. Maybe not quite a dance track, but a great amp-you-up-while-you-walk-down-the-street jam. It out on the latest Discotexas Records compilation, Discotexas Picnic II. RAD.

FOALS BAD HABIT ALEX METRIC REMIX

Alex metric is at it again! This time with a remix if Foals' Bad Habit. It's a tight and banging remix utilizing frontman Yannis Philippakis' voice and backing them up with some great tropical marimba midlines and a kicking bass. It's apparent that Metric is truely a pro at this, placing breaks and builds at all the right points. An excellent contribution to the indie electro genre. I'm mean really, it's freaking on point.

LINDSTRØM VOS-SAKO-RV FRED FALKE REMIX

French house producer and DJ Fred Falke takes a nice turn on Lindstrøm's track Vos-sako-rv and it is an utter delight. A big fan of both producers, there is something to be said when a remix is done not just for the sake of it, and to really create something unique. Arguably more toned down than his normal pop selections, this is a nice palate cleanser coming from Falke. Lindstrøm's original features some heavy base and a lot of synth beats reminicent of a tripped out ride into space. Falke maintains the overall feel while delivering something entirely new out of the main part of the track. The synth melody is there, but he strips the original bass and adds some strings and a house bass and middle line that makes this track explode. Side by side below for your comaprison. Enjoy!
