CLOUD CONTROL SCAR

London indie group Cloud Cult releases an infectious new single titled Scar. Part indie-pop, part vintage, their sound is well built and it shines with this track. If the beginning isn't enough to reel you in, just wait for the first chorus to come in. I'm almost at a loss of how to describe how much I love this song. They fall into the genre seamlessly, yet still carry their own sound; a feat in the over saturated land of girlie-man voices dominating indie-dance these days.

SOME MINOR NOISE UNDERSTANDING

 Some Minor Noise - Understanding

Toronto based duo Jane Void and Wayne Doe aka Some Minor Noise are our with their new single Unserstanding. This one took a few listens and then it had me hooked. Initially the electronic parts of the track sound really separate to the vocals. Almost as if they laid the vocals and a basic melody and someone tried to do a remix around the song. While that contrast remains, the two parts begin to blend into each other as the song progresses into something really unique and intricate. Void's vocals are beautiful and keep the whole piece grounded, letting the beat spin around her.

L'EQUIPE DU SON THE WOLFMAN MOUSTACHE MACHINE REMIX

L'Equipe du Son - The Wolfman Moustache Machine Remix

Let's just start with an excerpt of the Facebook Bio:
"So he starts programming but when his computer reaches capacity, he decides to hack into a government mainframe for more processing power and data storage capacity. But, unknowingly he has actually hacked into a secret government program and at the exact moment he hits "enter" to execute his program, a lightning bolt strikes his house leading to a series of supernatural occurrences and a violent explosion!
After the smoke clears nothing seems different at first but when L’Equipe du Son starts making music again he discovers he has superhuman abilities and can digitize himself into the mainframes of his synthesizers and computer to really make the most awesome music the world had ever heard."
Wolfman epitomizes what I love about the throwback 80s electronic genre. Super treble synth melodies, a bass line that sounds like a crime fighting movie montage accompaniment, and some nice added touches, like the Teen Wolf excerpt. Such a badass track.

Also included is Beauty Is the Light. I kind of fell down the rabbit hole with this label and artist and couldn't stop. Beauty is a heavy banging house track that could quite possibly knock down walls. I really can't say enough good things about L'Equipe du Son or his Dutch label Silhouette Records. Check them out!

KISSES AIR CONDITIONING BRETT REMIX

Kisses - Air Conditioning (Brett Remix)

We'd like to take a moment to get all 80's summer soundscape on you. Cue: Brett's remix of Kisses' Air Conditioning. It's easy on the ears and full of synth and guitar strumming and cool guy vocals. Add an inoffensive bass line and more synth and it's like John Hughes just stepped into your iPod. Seriously it makes me want to ride a bike and have this playing in my summer love montage scene. Amiright?

COSMO SHELDRAKE RICH FT. ANNA ROO

Cosmo Sheldrake - Rich Feat. Anna Roo

Slowly ease yourself in to Monday with Cosmo Sheldrake's Rich featuring Anna Roo on vocals. The 23 year old British producer/musician creates a nice little world with this track. Roo's vocals are quite and cute and the minimalist sound goes well with the accompanying percussion and harp. The acordian also lends itself to an Amelie-like cuteness that is hard to resist. His sound is definitely against the grain and I struggle to classify it as one genre or another - which makes it stand out so much more.

FOALS BAD HABIT ALEX METRIC REMIX

Foals - Bad Habit (Alex Metric Remix)

Alex metric is at it again! This time with a remix if Foals' Bad Habit. It's a tight and banging remix utilizing frontman Yannis Philippakis' voice and backing them up with some great tropical marimba midlines and a kicking bass. It's apparent that Metric is truely a pro at this, placing breaks and builds at all the right points. An excellent contribution to the indie electro genre. I'm mean really, it's freaking on point.

LET'S GET WEIRD :: JOYWAVE TONGUES FT. KOPPS

Joywave Tounges ft. KOPPS

Self professed neon noir band Joywave debuts their third album 88888, and from that comes our latest "Let's get weird' track, Tounges. This track reminds me a lot of Hot Chips earlier work, and I totally dig the throw back. It's jerky and off the wall in a really fun way. The vocals pop in and out and have these cool droops to the sound that just sort of dissolve out of the main melody. Give it a go - consider it a Coachella palette cleanser.

MO PILGRAM

MO Pilgram

Copenhagen's MO really came into their own at this year's SXSW. The 24 year old singer has an amazing voice and layers her soulful vocals over a peppy electronic background. This group really caught me off guard in the sense that you can tell they give zero fucks, and I love how the inhibition comes through so purely.

GHOST LOFT SO HIGH

Ghost Loft So Hight

We're big fans of Ghost Loft over at Hardly Stable, and their new track So High is no exception. Danny Choi's take on the chillwave genre comes off as effortless and relaxing, not boring or over conceptualized like so many other artists. The slowed down tempo and indie vocals make this a perfect weekend or end-of-day track. Chill on.

BANKS FALL OVER

Banks - Fall Over
Lady-singer Banks officially unhides herself with the release of her new single, "Fall Over." Synth pop with an edge. You'll get a totally different sound than you were expecting, and that is exactly why I'm liking her.

THE PASSENGERS LET HER GO PEER KUSIV REMIX

Peer Kusiv rework of The Passengers Let her go

While this came out in December (ancient I know), it's still a fantastic track and well worth a listen. German producer Peer Kusiv reworks The Passengers' indie-folk single Let Her Go beautifully. It's simple and pretty. He draws the acoustic sounds of the original out and adds a nice minimal touch that embellishes the track rather than over powering it.  This rings back a bit to an earlier post we did on Fennec & Wolf's edit of The Lumineers Stubborn Love.

VANCE JOY RIPTIDE

vance joy - riptide

Who is ready for a guilty pleasure indie-folk-pop summer single from melbourne based artist Vance Joy. It's his second off of the debut album 'God Loves You While Your Dancing'. Basically this song can be likened to kitten youtube videos. His vocals and music remind me a lot of Matt Costa in how light and up beat they are. Pretty adorable. Out now on Liberation Music. Check it all out below.

CHET FAKER I'M INTO YOU

chet faker, I'm into you
Australian Chet Faker and the not-so-new-but-maybe-you-haven't-stumbled-across-it-yet, "I'm Into You." The vocals are a little raw and off at times and the song almost sounds like it's smirking at you. It's awesome and soulful and it's definitely worth a listen.

GERMANY GERMANY APOLLO

Germany germany band, Apollo

Canada's Drew Harris aka Germany Germany brings us a new[ish] one with Apollo. His new work seems to be heavy with piano and/or heavy melodics. I can dig it.
"… apollo is the first of a collection of songs i’ve been working on for a long tie, songs i always planned to finish but was never happy with. i’ve decided that it’s time to publish them and to return to my earlier mindset of diy/lo-fi imperfection…”
Check out his SoundCloud here.
